2024, a turning point harvest

NADAL DE LA BOADELLA ESTATE – 2024 Harvest

CLIMATIC CONDITIONS

  • The driest autumn on record, totaling 29 mm, which represents approximately 10% of the usual rainfall for this season.
  • Winter continues the trend of recent years, with above-average temperatures and very few frost days.
  • Spring surprises us with cool, rainy weather, delivering over 20 days of rainfall, which brings 218 liters to the soil by June 30.
  • Summer remains cool until July 21, when a heatwave kicks in and lasts until August 14, breaking temperature records.
  • In the intense summer heat, a 23.7-liter rainfall on August 2 comes as a blessing to our estate.
  • Starting August 14, temperatures moderate slightly, offering relief to both the vines and harvesters, who begin harvesting on Monday, the 19th.
  • From September 1, a rainy period sets in until Sunday, the 8th, bringing autumnal freshness to the atmosphere, which remains.

THE CORPINNAT HARVEST Harvest began on Monday, August 19, with macabeu vineyards planted between 1950 and 1980 to preserve the freshness and balance of the must. The very low yields of the xarel·lo variety and the high summer temperatures prompt us to advance the harvest to August 22, bringing in grapes that will add volume, sparkling potential, good freshness, and aromatic intensity to the base wines. We start September with the harvest of macabeu and xarel·lo plots in cooler plots, continuing with the parellada harvest starting September 9.

THE XAREL·LO WHITE WINES HARVEST The xarel·lo harvest is advanced by 15 to 20 days compared to usual dates. Red xarel·lo is harvested starting September 2, and xarel·lo from September 3 onward. For the first time in 25 years, the minimum ripeness to obtain the organoleptic profile of NADAL X, a flavourful and complex white wine, has not been achieved, meaning this wine will not be available in the 2024 vintage.

THE SWEET WINES OF MALVASIA DE SITGES HARVEST The vines in La Carretera vineyard, harvested on September 18, have performed well and will allow us to produce a fragrant and seductive sweet wine.

THE HARVEST OF LATE-HARVEST SWEET WHITE WINES This harvest took place on Thursday, September 26, and Thursday, October 24. These grapes will be used in the production of expedition liqueurs, imparting the identity of Nadal to the Brut sparkling wines.

2024 HARVEST OVERVIEW With the recent abundant rainfall in spring and early autumn, we foresee that 2025 will be the year of a trend shift. After experiencing what has undoubtedly been the most challenging period for the vineyard in memory, we close this year’s harvest with satisfaction. Beyond grape production, the priority for 2024 has been the recovery of the vines after more than three and a half years of extreme drought. Today, we are pleased to say that we have succeeded. Production levels remain below usual, but the vines look forward optimistically to the 2025 harvest.
