CORPINNAT is established, the collective European Union brand that distinguishes great sparkling wines made in the heart of the Penedès.

Gramona, Llopart, Nadal, Recaredo, Sabaté i Coca & Torelló unite to promote this new brand which aims to integrate all those winemakers and winegrowers from the territory who can guarantee the quality standards established by the regulations of use of the new brand.

Organic grapes vinified on the premises of the winery ageing longer than 18 months and with a minimum price guaranteed to the grape grower are some of the commitments that must be undertaken by the winemakers and winegrowers who would like to be cover by the umbrella of the new brand.

Sant Sadurní d’Anoia 12th April 2018. The first bottles with the CORPINNAT Collective European Union brand will be launched on the first of October. This new project promoted by the Gramona, Llopart, Nadal, Recaredo, Sabaté i Coca and Torelló wineries, was established with the purpose of adding prestige to the sparkling wines made in the heart of the Penedès region. This new guarantee brand is open to all wineries that make sparkling wine within the CORPINNAT territorial delimitation and which comply with the strict commitments established by the rules of regulation: manual harvest, organic certified grapes, use of historic varieties – placing special emphasis on autochthonous ones-, integral vinification on the premises of the winery, ageing longer than 18 months, a minimum guaranteed price to the viticulturist with a gradual increase and an undertaking to thoroughness and self-commitment.

CORPINNAT consists of a geographical region which brings together 46 municipalities – every one of them from the Alt Penedès and some from the Baix Penedès, Alt Camp, l’Anoia and Baix Llobregat – where for geographical, geological, climatological and social reasons, autochthonous grape varieties for sparkling wine making have always been grown. The CORPINNAT territory has historically concentrated the majority of Cava production and other sparkling wines made by the traditional method.

As far as territory is concerned CORPINNAT consists of a compact area of 22,966 hectares of vineyards and is defined by the pre-coastal depression and adjacent hills. The CORPINNAT surface represents 61% of the total Cava surface area which is 33,706 hectares.

The integrating spirit of this initiative lead by six companies from the sector – which together make more than 2 million bottles per year – is perfectly reflected in the regulation of use of the brand which allows all those wineries that comply with quality and territory requirements to join regardless of whether they are in the DO Cava, the DO Penedès or in neither.

The CORPINNAT Brand will be placed on the main label of all sparkling wines made by member wineries which will be required to comply with the regulations mentioned before. In order for the wineries to be able to use the brand, they will also have to pass an initial external audit and another yearly one to certify compliance of these requirements.

The CORPINNAT brand has been registered in the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUiPO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and is property of the CORPINNAT Winemakers and Viticulturists Association (AVEC) which is the organization founded by the six promoters of the initiative that is open to all those cellars who would like to become members and make use of this brand with their sparkling wines. The AVEC board is the maximum governing body of the association and each cellar will have a vote, whereas the management board consists of a representative from each one of the six cellars that have promoted the project. Joint ad-honorem presidents of AVEC are Xavier Gramona and Ton Mata.
